Non Destructive Testing (NDT)

Non destructive testing (NDT) is a type of testing that is used to evaluate the properties of a material, component or system without causing damage.

 

NDT methods include visual inspection, ultrasonic testing, radiographic testing and liquid penetrant testing. NDT is important in guaranteeing safe operation as well as in quality control and assessing plant life. The flaws may be cracks or inclusions in welds and castings, or variations in structural properties which can lead to loss of strength or failure in service.

it is used to detect internal defects, measure thicknesses and characterise materials.
